How It's Calculated

The MET formula Calories = MET × Weight(kg) × Time(hours)
Example · 180 lb (81.6 kg) walking 3 mph for 1 hour 3.3 MET × 81.6 kg × 1 hr ≈ 270 cal

MET is the Metabolic Equivalent of Task — a standardized measure of how much energy an activity uses. 1 MET equals sitting at rest. A 3 MET activity burns three times as many calories per minute as resting; a 10 MET activity burns ten times as many. This calculator uses published MET values across 240+ activities from the Compendium of Physical Activities, then scales them to your exact bodyweight. Individual variation is ±10–15% depending on fitness level, age, and sex.
